Welcome to the Dookie's House adoption page.  Shown below are my fuzzy buddies who are eligible for adoption. All of these cuties have been neutered and descented, have been examined by a ferret-wise veterinarian and are current on vaccinations.  Each and every one is looking forward to meeting a really nice human to provide them with a good home and lots of love.

NEW!!  You can advertise your willingness to adopt a ferret on Dookie's List .  Just visit the link and "post" an ad in the "About My Home" category.

Adopting from Dookie's House is simple!  If you see a fuzzy or two that you want to make part of your family, please see the Adoption Application Form at the bottom of this page.  Also down there is a copy of the Dookie's House Adoption Agreement for you to review.

** The below listed ferrets have been placed by Dookie's House **

Joy:  ADOPTED 04MAY06

Joy is a cute panda mitt girl who was surrendered by a nice lady from Orlando.  Her name is actually Joey but we abbreviated it to Joy so as not to confuse her with recent adoptee, Joey.

Joy seems to be happy and healthy.  She enjoys her freedom in with the other ferrets here at Dookie's but occasionally gets a bit aggressive and has to be isolated for a while.  We think that she is used to being the only ferret and may just be afraid of the others.  Joy seems to be adapting well and is able to stay out of the cage for longer times now before getting into mischief.

Joy is very calm and friendly with humans and obviously received lots of love and attention from her previous human.

Normally we prefer that our adoptable fuzzies go to a ferret-smart home with at least one other compatible ferret.  Since Joy may also adapt well as the "only ferret", we would consider a single adoption in her case.

Update:  Joy was adopted into a wonderful, loving home by Melanie and Clayton from Auburndale.

**
Lola:  ADOPTED 14APR06

Lola is a special case.  First off Lola is actually a boy. We weren't trying to tease him by giving him a girl's name, but the person in the pet store said that he was a girl.  He is a cute Silver ferret with the most beautiful coat we have ever seen!

Lola got into a little trouble not too long ago.  He managed to get his toe stuck in the corner of the cage.  He panicked right away and tore part of his finger off trying to escape.  The vet patched him up and he is now fully recovered, but is still missing a nail on one of his fingers.

Lola is an amazing ferret who is full of life, even when he was in pain and on medication he was the sweetest most lovable ferret ever!  Sometimes he gets a little rough and starts grabbing onto things with his teeth, but he means no harm.  He just gets so excited especially when the other boys are around.  Lola really enjoyed snuggling and snoozing with his (now adopted) buddies, Joey and Stink.

Since Lola is used to having a ferret companion, we would prefer that he go to a ferret-smart home with at least one other compatible ferret.

Update:  Lola was adopted into a wonderful ferret-smart home by Paul from Bradenton.

**
Joey:  ADOPTED 02APR06

Joey is a cute, crazy Panda boy.  As soon as he is released from his cage he is so rambunctious.  He hops all around like a rabbit and wants to play with everything.

Joey also loves to climb and will try to climb anything he can get his claws into.  He just wants to play, play, and play some more.  He also loves hopping around in plastic bags (as long as you are supervising) and loves getting in the tub.

Since Joey is a companion with Lola and Stink, we would prefer that he go to a ferret-smart home with at least one of the other boys or at least one other compatible ferret.

Update:  Joey and Stink were adopted by Summer from Floral City.

**
Stink:  ADOPTED 02APR06

Stink is a cute Panda Mitt boy who is the oldest of the three and I would say the most affectionate.  He loves human contact and enjoys cuddling and snuggling.

He reminds me of a little bear because he has these cute rounded ears. He is also the most curious of the three. While all the others are sleeping he is devising ways of getting things he wants.

When he wakes up from his nap he is extremely adventuresome and then once he has explored everything he is non-stop playing with the other boys.  He is also very sneaky.  He will be snuggling in a blanket but as soon as you leave the room for one-second and come back you will discover that the TV remote, keys, and probably something else will be missing.  He also is very personable. He makes eye contact a lot and makes you feel like he is listening.

Since Stink is used to his buddies Lola and Joey, we would prefer that he go to a ferret-smart home with at least one of the other boys or at least one other compatible ferret.

Update:  Stink and Joey were adopted by Summer from Floral City.

Selene & Speed:  ADOPTED 29NOV05

These two youngsters came in from the Orlando area.  They are both six months old and look to be brother and sister.

Selene is a very pretty dark sable girl and Speed is a handsome sable boy.  They both have tons of energy and love to play and wrestle and do the wild weasel dance.  These two are still very young and are learning new things about their environment every day.  They both seem to friendly with other ferrets and enjoy romping with humans too.

Selene & Speed visited our ferret-smart veterinarian, Dr. Mitsie Vargas for an exam and vaccinations so they are now ready for their new home.  Both of them appear to be in excellent health and have grown in their first winter coats.

While they appreciate the security of the cage at night, we think they will do well in a well ferret-proofed home that gives them a liberal measure of freedom to run, explore and play outside of the cage.

Selene:

Birth Date:
 08MAY05
Weight:  34oz.
Last vaccination:  28NOV05

Speed:
Birth Date:
 08MAY05
Weight:  41oz.

Last vaccination:  28NOV05

Selene & Speed were adopted into a loving home by Rachel from St. Augustine.  They also have a new playmate, a cute albino girl named Dozy.

**
Frankie:  ADOPTED 16OCT05

Frankie was rescued by a caring human named Bill from Edgewater when she was observed exploring in his yard.  Frankie is a tiny but very cute, dark sable girl.  She is so small that her rescuer thought she was a kit.  We think that little Frankie is probably 18-24 months old.

Frankie is a very loving little girl and we think that she has had lots of socialization by her previous humans.  She was a bit bored being around all of the older, more sedate, ferrets here at Dookie's House.  When Selene and Speed showed up, Frankie perked up and has been enjoying her romps with both of them.

Birth Date:  15MAY04 (estimated)
Weight:  26oz.

Frankie was adopted by Karen & Robert from Palm Coast to be a companion with their nine month old ferret.

**
Milk Dud:  ADOPTED 25SEP05

Milk Dud came in from the Titusville SPCA where she had been rescued as a stray.  She is a very cute sable girl with tons of energy.

Her teeth are clean and she appears to be very healthy.  We're guessing on her age but she appears to be around 18 months old, possibly younger.

We bathed her, trimmed her nails, cleaned her ears and treated her for ear mites.  She's now happily bouncing about and exploring her new environment here at Dookie's.  We'll post more details about her as we observe her and learn more.

Birth Date:  15APR04 (estimated)
Weight:  28oz.
Last vaccination:  02SEP05

The SPCA brought Milk Dud up-to-date on her rabies and distemper vaccinations so she is ready to go to a new home.  We would prefer that she go to a ferret-smart home with at least one other compatible ferret.

Milk Dud was adopted by Kristine from Jensen Beach to be a companion with her two year old ferret, Cheyenne.

Precious:
Birth Date:

Weight:  29oz.

Last vaccination:  unknown

Both of these cuties are growing in their new winter coats which are dense and beautiful.  Since these two seem to be closely bonded, we wish to adopt them as a pair.

Freddy & Precious were adopted by Henry & Tammy of Port St. John.

**
Missy:  ADOPTED 26JUL05

Missy is a three year old sable girl who was received from a family here in Port St. John.  They had rescued her along with two other ferrets about eighteen months ago from a person who had been hoarding ferrets in nearby Canaveral Groves.  Missy was kept outdoors in a cage with the others who have since passed away.

Missy appears to be in good shape despite everything she has been through. She has good muscle tone, appears to be well nourished and her teeth are clean.  Her stools look good and we believe her to be in good health.

Missy is somewhat timid with other ferrets and was unsure of Pat for several days.  She has good litter habits, a good appetite and energy level and we think she is ready for a new home.

Missy was adopted into a wonderful, ferret-smart home by Sandi and Tony of Melbourne to become a playmate with their three cute ferrets, Buzz, Daisy and Tinkerbell.

**
Lupi:  ADOPTED  08JUL05

Lupi is a sable female Marshall Farms ferret who is approximately three years old.  She is very sweet and gentle and has a great personality!  She will come to her name, is affectionate, loves to play and is leash and potty trained.  She gets along with other animals and has no bad habits.

Lupi  has been examined by a veterinarian and comes with supplies.  When she was rescued she had been locked up in a small unclean cage, was malnourished and covered in fleas.  Now she is a beautiful, healthy, well adjusted ferret who needs lots of love and playtime.

Lupi was adopted by Pam from Clearwater to become a companion to  her ferret, Sasha.

**

Rascal:  ADOPTED 28DEC03

Rascal is a very cute, 2 ½ year old, Dark Sable boy.  He was dropped off at the Lakeland SPCA by his owner who must've given this special little boy lots of hugs.  When he first arrived he was shy and reserved but quickly responded to Ferretone offerings.  He is proving to be a people oriented,  playful, good natured boy.

Rascal gets along very well with other fuzzies, although a few of the bad boys here at Dookie's try to dominate him.  He's non-confrontational and good at avoiding problems without fleeing.

Rascal has visited our veterinarian for an exam and vaccinations.  While we were initially concerned that he may be showing early symptoms of adrenal disease, new fur has filled in the area at the base of his tail.  We would prefer that Rascal go to a home that has at least one other compatible ferret.  Recently Rascal has teamed up with Lily.  At snooze time the two of them can always be found curled up together.  We think it would be great for Rascal & Lily to be together at adoption time.

Lily:  ADOPTED 28DEC03

Lily arrived from the Lakeland SPCA with Tommy.

Lily is a cute 2 ½  year old Dark Sable girl.  When she first arrived, she tended to use her teeth a bit heavily.  She would also nip at an ankle or calf to get attention.  Lily has learned that her nips hurt us humans and has proven to be a very sweet, considerate little girl.   She has put on a few ounces now and seems to have slowed down a bit.  She still likes climbing up on the computer desk and stashing the mouse in a chosen niche and otherwise rearranging things.

Lily has also visited our ferret-wise veterinarian and received an update to her vaccinations.  Like Tommy, we would like her to go to a home with at least one other compatible ferret.  Recently Lily and Rascal have become almost inseparable and we think it would be great for them to be together at adoption time.

Brooks & Candy:  ADOPTED 06JUN03

Brooks is a handsome three year old boy with unusual silver blaze coloration which has faded in his recent coat change. When he first arrived at Dookie's he appeared to be a bit on the plump side but was good at jumping and climbing over the two foot barrier to explore the "forbidden" areas of Dookie's.

Brooks was adopted to Connie of Sebring but was returned to Dookie’s House along with cage mate Candy due to allergies. This visit he is about the same weight but seems to be much more athletic probably due to enjoying lots of freedom at his last home.  Brooks is very friendly and happily trades kisses for Ferretone.  He sometimes has some minor issues with some other ferrets but generally gets along well with most.

Candy is a gorgeous three year old sable girl who is very frisky and loves to play with everyone, especially humans.  Her previous cage mate, Cane, a very sweet and athletic albino male, passed away from a sudden illness.  Poor Candy was heart broken and lonely.  Her mom decided to bring Candy to back to Dookie's House so she could be with other fuzzies.

Candy was subsequently adopted to Connie of Sebring who later developed serious allergies and returned Candy to Dookie’s House along with cage mate Brooks.

Candy is very energetic and has been busy exploring all of the nooks and crannies at Dookie's House.  Her name fits her well because she is one of the sweetest ferrets that we have ever met.  We are very pleased that she has strongly bonded with Brooks so we want to keep the two of them together at adoption time.

We are very pleased to report that Candy & Brooks were adopted to Krista from Spring Hill to become pals with Sandy & Trixie.

Jack & Jill:  ADOPTED 30MAY03

These two were given up by a nice family in Tampa. They are both ten months old and look to be brother and sister.

Jack is a friendly, dark sable boy who was obese upon arrival at nearly four pounds.  Jill is a dark sable female who was shy but seemed to be very personable.  They both visited our ferret-wise vet for an exam and vaccinations and then went to a special halfway house for rehabilitation. Jim and PJ gave them lots of socialization TLC and the freedom to run and get back into shape.  Both of them have now reached full potential.

Jill has become an accomplished climber and has tons of energy.  She also likes to climb up onto the lap of her favorite human for some quiet snuggle time.  Jack is not quite as rambunctious but is just as energetic. He loves to play and wrestle with his imaginary friend and do the wild weasel dance. He also loves to play with other ferrets as does Jill and both get along great with dogs and cats.

Jack & Jill are now ready for that forever home and are perfect ferrets in every sense of the word.  Both of them are in excellent physical shape, have learned to appreciate us humans and are ready for anything that comes their way.  We think they will do well in just about any home that gives them a good measure of freedom and should do especially well in a multi-pet family.

Jack & Jill were adopted into a wonderful home by Ada of Winter Park.

**
Andy:  ADOPTED 28APR03

Andy is a three month old kit who was given up by his owner soon after being purchased from a pet store.  His owner realized that he just didn't have adequate time to devote to such an active little animal.  Andy has dark eyes but the camera flash brought out the green in them.

Andy is a very cute, playful baby boy who is still exploring and learning about his environment.  He gets along exceptionally well with everyone, even some of the bad boys here.  Whenever anyone gets aggressive with him, little Andy just out-maneuvers them with his playful romps and dancing.

It was an absolute joy to have little Andy here at Dookie's and we will miss him.  Following his vaccination regime, he was promptly adopted into a wonderful home with Lionel, Arianna and five other cute, young fuzzies.

**
Smokey & Spanky:  ADOPTED 26MAR03

These two came in from Oldsmar and were subsequently adopted to a wonderful home in Miami.  Tragically, their new mom has become seriously allergic to them and had to give them up.

Smokey is a very cute three year old dark sable male who is very friendly and people oriented.  Recently, he became ill and lost some weight but has responded to treatment.  He has re-gained all of his weight and his appetite is back to normal.

His cage mate, Spanky, is a big dark-eyed white male who is also very friendly and curious.  Spanky sleeps alot but does enjoy daily outings of snooping around Dookie's House and meeting the gang.

These two are very mild mannered and seem to get along very well with everyone.  Since these guys have been together since they were kits and appear to be strongly bonded, we wish to keep them together at adoption time.   Smokey & Spanky were recently examined by Dr. Vargas and have been updated on their vaccines.  They are ready to go to a new home now.

**
Mushu:  ADOPTED 26MAR03

Mushu came in with three older ferrets.  Her owner was recently divorced and could not find an apartment that would allow her fuzzies.  Mushu is 4.5 years old and is a very sweet, friendly little girl.  Normally we do not adopt older ferrets like Mushu, but she appears to be very healthy and doesn't seem to be closely bonded to her cage mates, Mija (7), Bubby (6).  We think Mushu will do well in a new home that has another ferret, especially a female or mild mannered male.  Mushu recently visited our ferret-wise veterinarian, Dr. Mitsie Vargas in Winter Haven, for an exam and is now up-to-date on vaccines.

Mushu was adopted into a wonderful new home by Hollie of Plant City and now has eleven playmates!

**
Sandy & Trixie:  ADOPTED 18MAR03

These two had been sold by a pet store in the Orlando area but were subsequent returned.  An young employee at the pet store took them home with the intention of providing them a good home.  After a while, her family decided that it would be best if they went to a home where they would be cared for by folks who understand and love ferrets.

Sandy & Trixie are both about one year old.

Trixie has an unusual gait so we decided to take a closer look.  X-ray revealed a fractured sacral vertebrae that is calcifying to repair itself.  She will need long term TLC to prevent further damage to her spine.  Her injury hasn't slowed her down at all as shown by the mid-air photo at right.  She is very active but sometimes is a bit clumsy in her romps.

Sandy appears to be very healthy.  She is a little shy but is very smart and thoroughly enjoys exploring around Dookie's House.   Both girls recently received their distemper and rabies vaccinations.

Since these two seem to be bonded and we wish to keep them together at adoption time.

Sandy & Trixie were adopted by Krista from Spring Hill.  Their new names are Shelby and Nina.

Crystal:  ADOPTED 20FEB03

Crystal had been sold by a pet store in the Orlando area but was subsequently returned.  An young employee at the pet store took Crystal, Sandy & Trixie, home with the intention of providing them a good home.  After a while her family decided that it would be best if they went to a home where they would be cared for by folks who understand and love ferrets.

Crystal is a beautiful 1-2 year old dark-eyed-white girl.  She was the first to be returned to the pet store and didn't appear to be bonded with Sandy & Trixie.

Crystal was examined and given and update to her vaccines by our ferret-wise veterinarian, Dr. Mitsie Vargas at the Orchid Springs Animal Hospital in Winter Haven.  She was adopted by Crystal Fox from Darlington, SC to become a companion for her cute six month old boy, Sable.

Tony:  ADOPTED 29JAN03

Tony arrived from the Lakeland SPCA where he had been dropped off by his previous owner.

Tony is an very active and somewhat shy, one year old sable boy.  He is very sweet with humans and was thrilled to meet and romp with most of the other fuzzies here at Dookie's.

Tony has visited our ferret-wise veterinarian, Dr. Mitsie Vargas at the Orchid Springs Animal Hospital in Winter Haven.  He appears to be healthy and has received an update to his distemper and rabies vaccinations.

Tony is ready to go to a new home.  We would prefer that he go to a home with a compatible fuzzy or two so he has a ferret playmate.

Tony was adopted into a wonderful home by PJ and Jim of Winter Haven to become a companion to their cute little fuzzy girl, Toodles and their puppy dog, Tyler.

**
Gomer:  ADOPTED 11JAN03

Gomer is a cute, two-year old sable boy who had recently been passed from home to home but wasn't able to find a human that wanted to keep him.   We really didn't understand why and thought that Gomer was quite a catch.

He is a very gentle boy who seems to get along fine with just about everyone.  He tolerated his bath quite well and enjoyed Ferretone treats for the first time here at Dookie's.  Needless to say, nail-trimming was a breeze.  He didn't even mind getting his ears cleaned (too much) and we were pleased that he was free of ear mites.

Gomer appears to be very healthy and put alot of energy into exploring the nooks and crannies of Dookie's House.  He soon  proved to be a welcome addition to the gang.  We promptly scheduled him for an exam and update on his vaccines and got him ready for his new home.

Gomer was adopted into a wonderful home by Roger & Emily Gresham of Miami and has joined three other cute fuzzies.

Button & Fuzzy Jumper: FOSTERED 23NOV02

Button is a four year old sable girl who was saved from a very bad situation by Kimberly from Seminole.  She soon realized that Button needed surgery for her adrenal disease but did not have the resources to fund it.  She sent out a plea for help to several shelters including Dookie's House.  We subsequently visited with Kimberly and brought Button back to the shelter so she could be examined by our ferret-wise vet, Dr. Mitsie Vargas at the Orchid Spring Animal Hospital in Winter Haven.

Fuzzy is a 3.5 year old sable girl who had been adopted to a new home by Widget's Halfway House in Winter Haven a year or so ago.  She was recently returned to Widget's.  It was clear that Fuzzy was ill and in dire need of surgery for adrenal disease.  Jim at Widget's had recently stopped sheltering due to health reasons so he asked us to take little Fuzzy in.

Both of these girls had successful bilateral adrenal surgery in October and have completely recuperated.  Fuzzy had a particularly tough time because she had other health issues related to the adrenal disease.  Their energy levels have zoomed and they are already growing new fur back in.  Follow on care is very important for these girls because there is a wide range of symptoms that could be caused by adrenal insufficiency due to the surgery.  Normally, they would remain at Dookie's House as permanent residents for this reason.   However, Kimberly stepped forward and offered to take these two into her home and heart and give them the love and follow on care that they richly deserve.  We are confident that she will keep a close eye out for any significant change in behavior, appetite, weight or condition and promptly advise us..

We at Dookie's are very thankful for Kimberly and all she is doing to ensure these two have the best of care.  We continue to keep in touch with her and are thrilled to report that these cuties are happy and healthy and are getting along great!

**
Sly & Smokey:  ADOPTED23NOV02

These two youngsters were bursting with energy and enthusiasm as they explored the nooks and crannies of Dookie's House and met the gang.

Sly, previously named Stinky, has a very outgoing personality and really seems to love humans.  At 20 months old, he is known to be quite clever at discovering ways to escape a cage and otherwise foil puzzles placed before him.

Smokey is a 15 month old blaze mitt boy with a friendly, playful  personality.  He is also incredibly cute but is somewhat heavier than shown in his photograph.  For the first two weeks here at Dookie's, he ate highly nutritional ferret food at the same rate that he had previously been eating the grocery store-multicolored cat food to stay alive.  He promptly gained 14 ounces weighing in at a more rotund 58 ounces.  We thought this was temporary but began to cut him back on his eating opportunities.

These two visited our veterinarian, Dr. Mitsie Vargas in Winter Haven, for an exam and vaccinations and were ready for a new, life long home.  Since Smokey has been with Sly ever since they were babies, we wanted them to be adopted as a pair.

Update: Sly & Smokey were adopted by Donna from Davenport.

**
Yogi & Boo-Boo:  ADOPTED 09NOV02

Yogi & Boo-Boo came from a nice family in Haines City who had recently adopted them from a ferret shelter.  They are both 16 months old and are brothers.  They look very much alike except that Yogi is much heavier and less active than Boo-Boo.  They are both very sweet boys but do like to make a mess at every opportunity especially Boo-Boo.

Yogi will sleep in the litter box if he isn't otherwise satisfied with his accommodations.  He is very people oriented and will seek you out.  He likes to be rubbed on his tummy, under his chin and likes to be held for awhile.  Boo-Boo likes you to chase him and he likes to play hide & seek.  They both will give lots of kisses.

These two get along great with the other fuzzies here at Dookie's House.  They appear to be very healthy except for Yogi's obesity and they are due to have their vaccines renewed on 17 December.  Since they are brothers and are closely bonded, we wish to keep them together at adoption time.

Update:  Yogi & Boo-Boo were adopted by Carol from Ft. Pierce into a very loving and caring home.

**
Cody (aka Kimo):  ADOPTED 29OCT02

Cody was relinquished by his owner who just did not have adequate time for him.  She was working and going to school and little time remained for this sweet little boy.  Cody was dropped off by his previous owner's mom.  Initially, Cody was very wild and unsure of me.  I bathed him, cleaned his ears, trimmed his nails and proceeded to introduce him to the other residents at Dookie's House.

Cody settled down quickly and proved to be a very sweet boy.  He is 18 months old and appears to be very healthy.  Cody is active and curious and enjoyed romping with Sly and Boo-Boo.  He got along very well with everyone here at Dookie's and should fit in fine in his new home with other ferrets.

Update:  Cody was adopted by Cristina from Miami Lakes to become a playmate with Meeko and Honey.

**
Duke & Daisy:  ADOPTED 06OCT02

These two arrived from a home in Sebring.   Their mom recently had a baby and hasn't had much time for them, so they had been cage bound for a while.

Duke is a two year old blaze mitt but his blaze is almost indistinguishable.  He is a bit timid around other fuzzies and has been getting picked on by some including a tiny female, Bonnie.  He is a mellow fellow who likes people and enjoys mooching for goodies..

Daisy is a tiny three year old silver female.  She was bitten by a dog two years ago and fears dogs now.  She is initially shy with people but warms up after a short while and shows them just how sweet she is.

Both are very healthy and are enjoying their new found freedom here at Dookie's.  These two appear to be strongly bonded so we desire to keep them together at adoption time.  They've had a close look over by our ferret-wise veterinarian, Dr. Mitsie Vargas, and are current on vaccines.

Update: Duke and Daisy were adopted by Leonard and family from Delray Beach to become companions to Dandy the pup (aka Derelict).

**
Renee, Steffie & Kiki:  ADOPTED 29SEP02

Renee & Steffie came from a nice home in Bartow where they have had the very best care.  They are both 16 months old and have been together since they were babies.  It was tough to photograph these two active girls because they are always on the go.  Kiki came in from a local Sebring family.

Renee is a beautiful sable girl with a fine blaze line on her head.  She is very energetic and has been out exploring just about every waking moment.

Steffie, a gorgeous black sable girl with a cute black nose was initially more reserved.  Once she ran into some of  the big boys here, she dove into the tunnel tubing and hung out with Spunky and Sally for about twelve hours before finally coming out and exploring her new environment.  Well, Steffie is out of her shell now.  She has been scaling the two foot barrier into the "forbidden" areas of Dookie's House where she had been putting her climbing abilities to use in gleefully rearranging counter, table and desktop contents.  She also refuses to be ignored and will sink canines into ankle meat to get your attention.  Well, she's gotten ours and we are helping her learn some alternative ways to "tug the pants leg"...

Kiki is a beautiful, 13 month old silver girl.  We had barely gotten to know her before she, Renee and Steffie were adopted into a wonderful home by Arianna from Gainesville.  They are now companions with a special little boy named mudfoot...

**
Isabelle:  ADOPTED 07SEP02

Isabelle (aka Bandit) is three month old sable female who is a bundle of energy and joy.  She loves to romp and play but also enjoys spending time with humans.  She is going to make someone a truly wonderful friend and playmate.  She also gives some of the greatest kisses we have ever had.

Isabelle is a bit picky about what she eats when it comes to ferret food.  We've discovered that she loves KFC popcorn chicken and will tear the box apart trying to get to it.

Isabelle has been examined and vaccinated by our veterinarian, Dr. Mitsie Vargas, and is ready for a new home.

Update:  Isabelle was adopted by Austin and Andrea from Clearwater to be playmate to Powder pup.

**
Powder:  ADOPTED 07SEP02

Powder is aptly named.  She is gorgeous, six month old, white fluff ball with lots of energy.  She seems a bit shy but is enjoying her new environment.

Powder has visited our veterinarian, Dr. Mitsie Vargas in Winter Haven, for an exam and vaccinations and is ready for a new, life long home.

Update:  Powder was adopted by Austin and Andrea from Clearwater to be playmate to Isabelle.

**
Bonnie, Clyde & Freddy:  ADOPTED 11JUL02

The three arrived from a nice home in Kissimmee.  Their mom could no longer give them the time and attention that they deserve.

Bonnie is a pretty 18 month old dark sable female.  She is a very active girl who has proven to be a talented climber. Bonnie essentially comes and goes as she pleases, easily scaling a two foot barrier that most of the fuzzies at Dookie's can't climb.

Clyde is a cute 18 month old blaze boy.  He is very friendly and enjoys exploring and mooching for treats.  He gets along very well with other ferrets.  We think Clyde may be deaf but are uncertain.  Bonnie and Clyde love to run and play together so it would be preferable, but not mandatory, to adopt them as a pair.

Freddy is a two year old dark sable male who is a somewhat shy.  He loves to explore and is skillful in opening cabinet doors.

While these fuzzies do not appear to be strongly bonded and can be separated at adoption time, we desire that each go to a home that has at least one other fuzzy.

Great news!  These three cuties were adopted by Hollie and Bud of Plant City to become buddies with Duncan, Peanut, Princess, Boo & Milly!

**
Pepper:  ADOPTED 29JUN02

Pepper arrived from the Lakeland SPCA where he had been for about two weeks.  He was found "in a trash can" in the Lakeland area and saved by a very nice person and subsequently adopted to the caring staff at the SPCA.

Pepper is an incredibly cute 18 month old silver dark eyed white boy.  He is very sweet with humans and is absolutely thrilled to be around other fuzzies.

Pepper was promptly adopted by Ellen from Lake Park to become a companion with two other cute fuzzies, Kodo and Peanut.

Lancelot & Guinevere:  ADOPTED  25MAY02

This pair came from a nice home in Orlando.  Unfortunately their mom developed some serious allergies and had to part with them to preserve her health.

Lancelot is a very cute and energetic 4.5 year old male who seems to get along fine with everyone here at Dookie's.

Guinevere is a gorgeous three year old dark sable female who is very sweet but is a little timid and has a tendency to nip if things don't go her way.

They both are having a blast exploring every nook and cranny  and playing with the gang here at Dookie's.

We would like to adopt these sweeties as a pair but would consider splitting them up as long as they are going to a home with other ferrets.

Both appear to be very healthy.  Their vaccinations are due for renewal on 23JUN02.

Update:  These two were adopted into a very loving and caring home by Roger and Karen from Oldsmar!

Bugga Boo:  ADOPTED 21APR02  - Special Needs

This beautiful two year old, dark-eyed-white girl arrived from Widget's Halfway House.  Boo seemed to be very scared of everyone including other ferrets.  Unfortunately her response to fear is to attack and bite.  We also think that she may have very poor hearing which is exacerbating her problem.  We've been working with her to help her relax and feel more comfortable around others.

She has warmed up to everyone and we can handle her now without being bitten.  She is still very aggressive with many of the other fuzzies, especially the small females, so we have to keep her locked up alot.  Lately her outings have increased in duration as she adapts to the others and avoids creating a scene.

Boo is a plump, very active girl who loves to romp and play with toys.   She marches around like she is in charge only to quickly dive under the furniture to avoid a perceived threat.  We absolutely enjoy the loving kisses she occasionally showers us with, especially following a Ferretone treat.

We think it is unlikely that she will accept another ferret without pestering it into submission.  She needs a very patient human to become her mommy, daddy, or best friend that she can absolutely trust and relax with.  Sometimes she is more relaxed and gets along reasonably well. Other days she seems to be in alert mode ready to react and attack things that threaten her.  More photos of Bugga Boo are here.

Boo really is a sweet baby.   Her only problem is fear, so she just needs to have lots of love and tender reassurance.

Bugga Boo was adopted by Deana from Lakeland.

**
Weasie:  ADOPTED 16FEB02

Weasie arrived from a nice family in Clearwater.  He is a very rambunctious three year old boy and was absolutely thrilled to meet and play with other fuzzies here at Dookie's.

He had been a lone ferret with five cats and a Black Lab.  Weasie is very strong and plays a bit rough with some of the male ferrets, but seems to get along very well with the three tiny females here, Sally, Baby and Spunky.  He also loves to wrestle and get tickled by people and is very gentle with his teeth..

This guy is no mooch at all!  He initially had no interest in Ferretone and has refused every treat offered so far, even raisins.

Weasie is proving to be a very friendly, sweet boy.   We think he will make a wonderful addition to any family with cats, large dogs, and ferrets.  We would like to see Weasie go to a home with at least one other ferret.  More photos of Weasie are here.

Weasie was adopted by Ken & Gia of Miami Beach.

Cinnamon and Sugar:  ADOPTED 22OCT01

These two arrived on May 4th via Widget's Halfway House.  Both are about 10 months old.

Cinnamon is a long, wiry, very handsome cinnamon boy who will be a big ferret when he fills out. He is very energetic and curious about everything.   He is a climber who is into everything.  Sugar is a small sable girl who is a bit timid but is starting to assert herself.  She is also an energetic explorer.  Both are very healthy and love to romp and play.

Unfortunately we do not know their given names.  Cinnamon and Sugar are just temporary names while they are here at Dookie's.  They appear to be strongly bonded and we wish to keep them together at adoption time.

Update:
These two were adopted into a very loving and caring home by Jennifer from Avon Park!

**

Boo and Milly:  ADOPTED 11AUG01

These two girls arrived April 27th via Widget's Halfway House.  They came from a nice family with busy teenagers and are both very well nourished and healthy.  Boo is a two year old albino who is very outgoing and friendly.  Milly, a cute one year old sable, is a bit shy.  While they both actively seek lots of attention, Milly likes to nip at my ankle if I don't quickly respond.  I think maybe she was rewarded for this behavior by her previous owner by being picked up when she bit.  Now she sees it as natural way to get attention.  She is responding well to my training of her to stop this behavior... These girls have grown up together and we will only adopt then as a pair.
Update:
Boo & Milly have been adopted by Hollie from Plant City and have joined Duncan and Princess.

**

Duncan:  ADOPTED 31MAY01

Duncan arrived on April 16th and things are just now getting back to normal.  This boy is a youngster with tons of energy.  He is a strikingly handsome blaze-mitt who is absolutely into everything and is a mooch for Ferretone and raisins.  Duncan is a smart boy and despite his youthful exuberance, is doing very well in the harness and leash.  Except for bullying old man Nosey a little, he is very sociable with the other fuzzies.  Duncan was raised with Zoey but they don't seem to hang out very much with each other.

Update:  Duncan was adopted into a wonderful new home by Hollie of Plant City and now has a new playmate, Princess!

**

Zoey:  ADOPTED 30MAY01

Zoey is Duncan's slightly older cage mate.  She is an energetic, lithe little girl who recently celebrated her first birthday.  She is very loving and at times can be persistent about getting your attention to be picked up and given a goody and/or a hug.  She loves attention, is very appreciative and likes to give ferret kisses.
Update:  Zoey was adopted by Debbie of Orlando and now has a new 9 week old blaze baby sister, Taz!

**

Candy and Cane: ADOPTED 27MAY01

This pair arrived 16 May via Widget's Halfway House.   Candy is an 8 month old sable girl who is very frisky and loves to play with everyone, especially humans.  Her cage mate, Cane, is a very sweet and athletic 19 month old albino male.  He's already jumped and climbed over the 2' barrier into the "forbidden" areas of Dookie's House.  He's a bit on the skinny side, but we'll put some weight on him in no time.
Update:
These two sweeties were just adopted into a loving home by Laura from Dade City!

**

Zeek and Rosie:  ADOPTED 20MAY01

This young pair arrived on 13 May via Widget's Halfway House.  They are both about one year old.
Zeek is a very beautiful black sable that is a typical ferret in every sense of the word. He is very inquisitive and loves to climb on tables, and on anything else he can get onto.
Rosie is a very sweet and feisty female blaze. We think she may be deaf as she doesn't appear to respond to noise.
Update:
These two cuties were also adopted by Carl and Amy of Jacksonville!

**

Misty:  FOSTERED 23FEB01

Misty was rescued with Cricket who has been adopted.  You may remember reading about the bicycle dragging incident and the lacerated paws.

Well, Misty could be my twin, she looks so much like me.  But she is a tiny little thing, not skinny, just very small at 23 ounces.  She is also a very smart girl, but then she's been around a long time having just turned seven years old.

Thankfully she is still very healthy although she does sleep a lot.  I just wish some of the other fuzzies wouldn't pick on her so much.  Pat has to keep her in the cage more than he likes, just for her own safety.  She is so frail.  Often when she first wakes up, her little feet and legs shake so much you think she might just fly apart!

Update: Misty is now enjoying the happy home of Mary and Doug Calo of Loxahatchee, FL. with her sister Cricket, and Sabrina, Mo and the rest of the Calo menagerie!

**

Cricket: ADOPTED 24JAN01

Cricket and her cage mate Misty were rescued by a neighbor of their owners when the neighbor observed their youngster dragging the two of them along the street in harness behind her bicycle.  After taking them to the vet to get their severely lacerated paws treated, this wonderful person contacted Dookie's House and turned them over.

Cricket would've been offered up for adoption sooner, but Misty is eight years old and too frail to adopt.  Pat thought they should stay together, but time has shown that Cricket isn't terribly bonded to Misty since her energy levels are so much higher.  Cricket  is about two years old and has become quite a sweetie.  She enjoys being held and is a persistent mooch for Ferretone and raisins.  She won't be ignored and, if she thinks necessary, will nip at your ankles to get your attention.  Cricket has been at Dookie's since July 2000.  More photos of Cricket here.

Update:  Cricket was adopted into a wonderful home with Mary & Doug Calo and their fuzzy Moe, a sable sprite, on 24 January!

Cricket

**

Sabrina: ADOPTED 24JAN01

Sabrina was rescued from the Tri-County Animal Shelter in November 2000 where she had been dropped off by her owner.  Except for her name, no other information was provided.

She is young, probably around a year old. One thing for sure, she wasn't being fed properly.  She came into Dookie's a skinny-minny at 23 ounces.  In a week she had gained 5 ounces.  That's more than 25 percent of her body weight! Well, she's up to 32 ounces now and doing very well.  Unfortunately she wasn't immediately welcomed by the other fuzzies at the shelter and wound up sleeping by herself during the move of  Dookie's House from Maryland to Florida.  Well she caught a cold.  Her little nose was stuffed up and she would sneeze terribly.  But Pat gave her lots of special care and she is now much better.

She is really cute and is an absolute sweetie who is turning into a real lap puppy.  Pat says that if she doesn't get adopted soon, he may not be willing to part with her what with all those kisses she gives him. What a honey she is!  More photos of Sabrina here.

Update:  Sabrina was adopted into a wonderful home with Mary & Doug Calo and their fuzzy Moe, a sable sprite, on 24 January!

Dookie's House Ferret Rescue and Shelter
Adoption Application Form

Adopting from Dookie's House is simple!

1.  Take Dookie's Ferret Care Quiz.  (Hint -  read Dookie's Ferret Care Tips  web page first)
2.  Fill out the below form and click on the
Submit button.
3.  Respond to Shelter Dad's emails.
4.  Visit the shelter, interview and meet the fuzzies.
5.  When approved, pay the adoption fee and take your new cuties home!

Dookie's House only adopts ferrets in person.  Please do not submit this adoption application form if you are unwilling to travel to Cocoa, Florida to pick up the ferrets in person.

Adoption fees:

Ages up to 1 year: $75ea/$140 pair
Ages >1 - 2: $70ea/$130 pair
Ages >2 - 3: $65ea/$120 pair
Ages >3 - 4: $60ea/$110 pair
Age over 4 years: $40ea/$70 pair (healthy)

All of the ferrets will have visited a veterinarian for an exam and vaccinations so you will avoid that expense for about a year.  Actually, the cost of the ferret should be your least concern.  A much larger expense will be for the cage (if needed), food, supplies and veterinary services.  Ferrets live 5-7 years and occasionally longer.

Ferrets require annual examinations and vaccinations which routinely costs about $60 per ferret.  When (not if) the ferret becomes ill, you need to be willing to pay for timely veterinary care which could quickly add up.  When ferrets reach three years and older, most develop serious but treatable diseases such as adrenal tumors, insulinoma, cardiomyopathy, inflammatory bowel disease, etc., and will require veterinary treatment, often including surgery, by a ferret-wise veterinarian and supportive care to avoid pain, suffering and premature death.

Please do not seek to adopt a ferret if you are unwilling to accept the labor and financial obligations required for older ferrets.
