Boarding

Dookie's House is not currently accepting ferrets for boarding.

for owners or organizations who need temporary care for their ferrets. We have facilities for several ferrets at any one time. The actual number depends on the special requirements and compatibility of the ferrets and the current shelter load.

We will provide general care, daily handling and can administer any medications including injections and subcutaneous infusion.  Food is included.  Dookie's House currently feeds Path Valley Farms Ferret Diet, Marshalls Premium Ferret Food, The Ferret Store Superior Choice Ferret Food, and an Extra Care Indoor Cat Formula Cat Food.

Boarding rates are:

Daily:  $3 per ferret*
Weekly:  $18 per ferret*              * There is a 25% discount for four or more ferrets.
Monthly:  $60 per ferret*

You will be asked to provide proof of current distemper vaccination, any medications or significant medical history, an emergency phone number, and food if different from what we are feeding.  We also recommend that you also provide any familiar items like toys or special bedding to help make the fuzzies feel more comfortable.

We are ferret knowledgeable and equipped to take care of ill ferrets. You will be asked to sign a release allowing us to take your ferret to our vet,
Dr. Mitsie Vargas in Winter Haven, in case of serious illness/injury.

To place a ferret for boarding, please give shelter dad Pat a call at (321)684-4109 or email
ferrets@dookieshouse.org.

All fees will go to Dookie's House, Inc. to support shelter operations and veterinary expenses.   Below is a copy of the boarding agreement for your viewing:

Frodo:  ARRIVED 29JUN03

Frodo is a very cute 20 month old Blaze Mitt boy who came in for long term boarding by a nice person from Cape Coral who had rescued him about six months ago.

Before that, Frodo was living in a house with lots of other animals including four big hunting dogs, two prairie dogs and all kinds of lizards and snakes. We think he was in the cage alot because he was a fat boy and couldn't run much without stopping to catch his breath.

His new mom took him on long walks on the beach-sand at sunset and Frodo soon dropped about a pound of weight.

Frodo has gone back home now.  While he was here, Frodo loved to romp with the other fuzzies here at Dookie's House and enjoyed playing fun games with humans too.
