Surrender

If you find that you can no longer give your ferret the care and attention it deserves, please surrender the little guy or gal to a shelter like Dookie's House.

Before you make the final decision to give up your ferret please review the checklist of solutions to situations which, with patience, compromise and a bit of effort, have allowed people to keep their ferrets.  If you have no other options, please contact a ferret shelter near you.  For a listing of ferret shelters in Florida click here.  For a nationwide listing of ferret shelters provided by the American Ferret Association click here.

NEW!!  You can list your ferret for adoption on Dookie's List .  Just visit the link and "post" an ad in the appropriate geographical category.

If you need further assistance, please contact shelter dad via email or by phone at (321) 684-4109.  Be sure to include the keyword ferret in your email.

FERRET SURRENDER AGREEMENT

I, the undersigned, have made the decision to surrender the following named ferret(s) and have chosen to enlist the adoption services of Dookie’s House Ferret Rescue and Shelter, who will find new homes as appropriate.

Name: ___________________ Color/Markings: ____________________________ Gender: _____ Age: ______

Name: ___________________ Color/Markings: ____________________________ Gender: _____ Age: ______

Name: ___________________ Color/Markings: ____________________________ Gender: _____ Age: ______

Reason for surrender: ________________________________________________________________________

I understand that the above name ferret(s) is/are being surrendered for their continued welfare and that Dookie’s House Ferret Rescue and Shelter accepts the ferret(s) in an “as is” condition.

I understand and agree that following a 48-hour grace period which is provided to me so that I may reconsider my decision, I will relinquish any and all interest in the above ferret(s).  The surrender then becomes final and irreversible and I may no longer be given any information on the condition, welfare or disposition of the surrendered ferret(s).

Dookie’s House Ferret Rescue and Shelter then assumes full ownership including responsibility for any illnesses and will provide appropriate veterinary care for the surrendered ferret(s).  Should a surrendered ferret prove to be too old, sick, frail, or behaviorally incompatible to be adopted, it will become a permanent resident of Dookie’s House Ferret Shelter or will be placed in an appropriate Foster Home.

No ferret will be euthanized except as a means to preclude pain and suffering resulting from an intractable medical condition.  No ferret will be placed in any city, county or state that restricts or bans ownership of ferrets, nor will any ferret be knowingly placed for the purpose of ritual, rite, contest, display or medical experimentation.

Dookie’s House Ferret Rescue and Shelter guarantees to the surrendering party that the ferret(s) will receive utmost in care and consideration in the placement with a new owner and that future contact with the new owner will be done in the interest of continued health and welfare concerns.  Dookie’s House Ferret Rescue and Shelter operates as a service to ferrets and as such is not a business.  Resources are very limited and any donation would be greatly appreciated.

I have read, understand and agree to all of the above:
